1. 可数名词和不可数名词
英语中的普通名词可以分为四类，个体名词和集体名词可以用数目来计算，称为可数
名词，物质名词和抽象名词一般无法用数目计算，称为不可数名词。可数名词有单、复数形
式，单数名词前可用 a/an。例如：
A dog is an animal.
不可数名词没有复数形式，单数形式前不用 a/an，但可以用 the 或不用，不可数名词作
主语，谓语动词要使用单数形式。例如：
Bread is made from the flour.
下列名词常用作不可数名词：work（工作），news（消息），luck（运气），fun（有趣的
事），home-work（家庭作业），advice（劝告、建议），harm（损害、伤害），progress（进步），
information（信息、消息），weather（天气），wealth（财富），furniture（家具），luggage／
baggage（行李）等。
2. 复合名词的复数形式
1）以 man 或 woman 为前缀的复合名词变为复数时，前后两个名词均变为复数，如：
manservant → menservants，woman student → women students 等。
2）以“可数名词+介词（短语）”构成复合名词时，在名词后加“-s”，如：looker-on →
lookers-on, mother-in-law → mothers-in-law 等。
3) 以“动词／动词－ed 形式＋副词”构成复合名词时，在词尾加“-s”，如：sit-in → sit-ins,
grown-up → grown-ups 等。
4)以“动词－ing 形式＋副词”构成复合名词时，在动词-ing 形式后加-s，如：coming-in
→ comings-in（收入）。
3.名词作定语
有时一个名词可以直接修饰另一个名词，用作定语，作定语的名词一般用单数形式，如，
a bus driver。注意以下两点：
１）man, woman, gentleman 等作定语时，其单复数以所修饰的名词的单复数而定。例
如 men workers, women teachers, gentlemen officials。
２）名词常和数词一起组成作定语的复合结构，这时名词也应当用单数形式，如：
two-dozen eggs 两打鸡蛋，a ten-mile walk 十英里路，a five-year plan. 一个五年计划。有
时，复合结构还可跟一个由连字符连接的形容词，如 five-year-old girl。例如：
例：Dr. Jones has a daughter.

4.名词的所有格
双重所有格:
of+’s 的结构叫 双重所有格。双重所有格主要在以下两种情况下使用：
（1）它所修饰的词前有不定冠词 a 及 any, some, no, few, several 等表示数量的词，表示
“其中之一”或“其中一部分”的意思。如：
She is a friend of my brother’s 她是我哥哥的一个朋友。
John saw a picture of his sister’s 约翰看到了他妹妹的一幅画。
（2）双重所有格所修饰的词前面有一个指示代词 this, that, these, those，往往表示赞赏
或厌恶的情绪。如：
That little daughter of your sister’s is really a dear.
你姐姐的那个小女孩真逗人。
例 例：Sorry, I don’t know he is a friend of
